Meet Laila, Inventory Manager
Hi there! I’m so happy to be one of the newest addition to the Brazos Bookstore team. I’m originally British but I grew up in 8 different countries. I've lived here for the past few years and so far, Houston is the closest thing I've ever had to a home.
Ever since I was a kid I have loved reading. My dad bought me all the David Walliams and Roald Dahl books and I loved going to the Scholastic book fairs at school to find new reads. I eventually read almost all of the Goosebumps books which kickstarted my adoration for horror.
I stopped reading as much in high school but I’m so happy to have found my love for it again because working in a bookstore feels like it’s Christmas all the time. Currently, I enjoy a lot of contemporary women's literature including memoirs, educational reads, poetry, and full on fiction. Complex characters, relationships, and plots are what I love to dive into and what I find to be most relatable.
Books have helped me put my phone down and escape into someone else’s world but also given me the chance to reflect and gain clarity on my own. A fun thing I love to do is read different genres according to the seasons. In the summer I prefer light-hearted, coming-of-age, joyful stories while in the winter I go back to my roots and read chilling horrors and psychological thrillers. Despite only being 19 I have some perfect recommendations for books to read in your 20-somethings, so give me a shout if that’s you, or if you just want to chat in general, I love making new friends!
