Meet Cassie, Events Assistant

My mother is a reading teacher, which means I’ve been surrounded by books all of my life. As cliche as it may be, my first true literary love was JK Rowling’s Harry Potter series. From there, I dove headfirst into the magical and imaginative worlds of middle grade and Young Adult literature. My mom and I tagged teamed our reading, seeing what books would do well in her classroom library and which ones might not, and I found myself working my love of books into everything I did: competitive reading quiz bowls, the summer reading programs at my local library, trading volumes of manga with my friends as we passed each other in the hallway, and even beginning to take narratives into my own hands by delving into the precarious world of fanfiction.

When I majored in Performing Arts Studies, I adapted books for staged readings and obsessed over what Libba Bray novel I’d pull my next monologue from (it was almost always Going Bovine, if you were curious).

Today, I still do all these things, and I get to work in a bookstore! Instead of being surrounded by books in a classroom, I’m surrounded by books at work. It’s an honor to introduce people to the incredibly diverse world of Young Adult literature and participate in so many store events. When I’m not at work, you can catch me talking long walks (listening to an audiobook), being “social” (with a book in hand or sneakily reading an ebook on my phone), or in a coffee shop on my laptop (not reading, but definitely writing on a Harry Potter fanfiction RP site). When not delving into a new story, I’m probably talking about a new musical, pop culture analysis, or my cat.
