Meet Brooke, Shipping & Returns

The classics were my first love – Jane Austen, the Brontës – pretty much anything that involved long dresses, a lot of talk and not very much action. I was raised on the Little House books and devoured anything set in the past, especially if it involved a lot of butter churns and pioneer women in bonnets.

I have now entered this century. Contemporary American fiction is my stomping ground. I love wacky, revealing first person narratives that tell the truth about what it’s like to be human – especially if they involve unseemly personal details. Dark and sinister stories with a sense of humor also grab me.

In non-fiction I love American travel narratives – William Least Heat-Moon’s Blue Highways is a long-time favorite. I love and envy writer-adventurers like Jon Krakauer and think early aviation stories are great fun. I also like funny guys like David Sedaris and Bill Bryson.

Brooke left Brazos Bookstore to return to grad school in July 2016
