We’re eager to help you find authors you know, but we also hope to broaden reader’s horizons and introduce Houstonians to other narrative masters at work.

One of Houston’s richest literary opportunities begins August 21st when National Book Award winner James McBride kicks off Inprint’s 43rd season with a reading from his new book THE HEAVEN & EARTH GROCERY STORE at the Alley Theatre. Inprint has been bringing the world’s leading writers to Houston since 1980 to read from and talk about their books.

James McBride came on the literary scene with his 1995 memoir THE COLOR OF WATER: A BLACK MAN'S TRIBUTE TO HIS WHITE MOTHER, which spent two years on the best-sellers list. THE GOOD LORD BIRD won the National Book Award for Fiction in 2013 and his 2020 DEACON KING KONG won the Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Fiction. McBride is an amazingly powerful storyteller with so much insight, skill and humor at hand, his prose reads like jazz.

THE HEAVEN & EARTH GROCERY STORE is a timely, beautiful piece of American fiction and a fantastic introduction to both McBride’s voice and Inprint’s place at the heart of our literary dialogue. This is a perfect event for readers of all genres. Come join the conversation over books and ideas that impact how we see and understand the world.
