We will be joined by translators Anna Moschovakis, Caitlin O'Neil, Emma Ramadan, and Lara Vergnaud. This event will be moderated by Kavita Ashana Singh.

Kavita Ashana Singh is an Assistant Professor in the English Department at the University of Houston. Her research focuses on the Anglophone and Francophone Caribbean, and she is completing her first book, titled Carnival Language: Performance and Multilingualism in the Post/colonial Caribbean. Dr. Singh is a former Mellon Postdoctoral Fellow of the Jackman Humanities Institute at the University of Toronto. She received her PhD in Comparative Literature from Cornell University, and her Bachelor’s in Comparative Literature with a Certificate in African-American Studies from Princeton University.

Anna Moschovakis has translated fiction, poetry, and prose by a range of Francophone writers including Annie Ernaux, Jean-Luc Nancy, Albert Cossery, Marcelle Sauvageot, Samira Negrouche, Claude Cahun, and Robert Bresson. Her most recent translation is of David Diop’s At Night All Blood Is Black (Frère D’Âme). 

Caitlin O'Neil is a translator and copy editor based in Minneapolis. She is the translator of Belgian writer Corinne Hoex's Gentlemen Callers, out now from Dalkey Archive Press. She holds an MA in French from The University of Texas - Austin, with a specialization in translation studies and linguistic ideologies. 

Emma Ramadan translates books of all genres from French. She is the recipient of the PEN Translation Prize, the Albertine Prize, an NEA Fellowship, and a Fulbright for her work. Her recent translations include Abdellah Taïa's A Country for Dying, Kamel Daoud's Zabor, or the Psalms, and Anne Garréta's In Concrete.

Lara Vergnaud is a translator of prose, creative nonfiction, and scholarly works from the French. Her translations include novels by Ahmed Bouanani, Zahia Rahmani, Mohamed Leftah, and Joy Sorman. Lara is the recipient of two PEN/Heim Translation Fund Grants and a French Voices Grand Prize, and her translation of The Last One by Fatima Daas was shortlisted for the PEN Translation Prize. She lives in Washington, D.C.
