World Book Night special event with Chris Cander

Tuesday, April 22, 2014 - 7:00pm
2421 Bissonnet St
77005-1451 Houston

Brazos Bookstore has been chosen as one of twenty U.S. locations to host an official World Book Night launch event on April 22, 2014. Award-winning author Chris Cander joins us to celebrate this great cause beginning at 7PM.

Additionally, all attendees at our April 22 event will receive a free copy of Shakespeare’s Sonnets in a special WBN edition.

As part of this celebration, Chris will speak about her own World Book Night giving experiences, and all local givers are welcome to come share their giving stories. Brazos Bookstore will also be just one of two bookstores in the country to feature the launch of the proprietary, original World Book Night e-book containing eight short pieces by authors, booksellers and librarians.

One of the featured pieces is Chris’ very moving short story, Lectore, about a Cuban cigar factory storyteller during the time of Castro. It is adapted from her award-winning novel, 11 STORIES, and she has a new book, WHISPER HOLLOW, coming in January 2015 from Other Press. Chris has been a WBN volunteer book giver every year.

Carl Lennertz, Executive Director of World Book Night US added: “I loved her novel, and this short story is the perfect way to draw in readers who receive our free e-book. I wanted this in the first original WBN ebook as a thank you to Chris for her incredible generosity of spirit and giving.”

Other official WBN launch events will take place in Seattle, Portland, Berkeley, Los Angeles, Denver, Santa Fe, Chicago, Duluth, Lexington KY, Stone Ridge VA, Wilmington NC, Vero Beach FL, Buffalo and Ithaca NY, Barre VT, Washington DC, and New York City.
