Keith Ryan Cartwright, Harold Cash, and Dennis Davis in conversation with Judge Ken Wise.

Black Cowboys of Rodeo is a collection of one hundred years' worth of firsthand cowboy stories, set against the backdrop of Reconstruction, Jim Crow, segregation, the civil rights movement, and eventually the integration of a racially divided country.

JUSTICE KEN WISE sits on the 14th Court of Appeals in Houston, Texas.  Justice Wise traces his ancestry back to the Republic of Texas in 1836.  He was born and raised in Houston and attended Texas A&M University where he competed on the intercollegiate rodeo team.  He attended law school at the University of Houston and practiced law for 8 years before taking the bench as Judge of the 152nd and 334th District Courts. He is the host of the Wise About Texas podcast. judge@judgekenwise.com

KEITH RYAN CARTWRIGHT is a communications specialist for the Rutherford County Board of Education in Tennessee, an occasional adjunct professor at Middle Tennessee State University and a journalist. He previously served as editorial director and senior writer for Professional Bull Riders Inc. keithryancartwright@gmail.com

HAROLD CASH is a former professional rodeo cowboy. He won the 1979 bareback title in the All-American Rodeo Association — which he co-founded with several other Black rodeo cowboys from Houston and the surrounding Gulf Coast region of Texas — and won the title again in 1981. Cash was inducted into National Multicultural Western Heritage Hall of Fame in 2010 and is a gold card member of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association.

DENNIS DAVIS is a third-generation cowboy who trains, handles and hauls bucking bulls to professional bull riding events and rodeos from coast-to-coast. After years of competing as a professional bull rider and then working for other stock contractors, he started Dennis Davis Bucking Bulls. His most famous investor is UFC president Dana White. The two had success with a bull named F-Bomb and have since partnered on several other ABBI bulls.
