Greg Gerke’s work has appeared in Tin House, Film Quarterly, LA Review of Books, The Kenyon Review, and other publications. Especially the Bad Things, stories, was published by Splice in 2019. Zerogram Press is releasing See What I See, essays, in April 2021

Garielle Lutz’s previous books also include Stories in the Worst Way, I Looked Alive, Partial List of People to Bleach, Divorcer, and The Gotham Grammarian.  Lutz has been the recipient of grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Foundation for Contemporary Arts.

See What I See is a quasi-memoir in essays on literature, living, and film—from Gaddis and Gass to Paris and Oregon to Kubrick and Rohmer—giving one the understanding of “what living with great art is like for someone who can’t live without it.”

By turns lyrical and arch, nostalgic and impassioned, gnomic and piercingly insightful, they seek answers in the artistic achievements of the great masters as well as in less likely places. For Greg Gerke, the nectar of aesthetic experience is found as often in the human body as in poetry or prose, as much in a movement through the world as on celluloid and canvas. Rapturous and indignant, ecstatic and regretful, his essays register the nuances of living in a world abundant with art, and apprise us, page by page, of the sheer breadth of “the distinguished enterprise of being.”

With praise from such distinguished authors as Phillip Lopate, Christine Schutt, and Vijay Seshadri, this new and expanded version of See What I See, with an introduction by noted scholar Steven Moore, is the perfect companion for the bookworm or cinephile. Michael Dirda writes of it, “Through his study of [other] distinctive stylists, Gerke has made himself into what he calls a “page-hugger”… always caressing the details.”

Worsted is a collection of fourteen hyperconcise fictions about louche life, unluckful love, and lonelihood by Garielle Lutz, the author of The Complete Gary Lutz.
