Nourishing Wisdom for Life contains traditional recipes and guidance for improving general health and assisting in women’s postpartum recovery. With assistance from our daughter and graphic designer, Katherine, the book is filled with beautiful, full-color photos to accompany the recipes and specially created diagrams to explain the TCM theories. Sylvia hopes others may benefit from her sharing her knowledge and unique experiences.

It is a timeless resource for any household to keep for generations.

Sylvia L. Quan was born in the Seychelles and grew up in mainland China and Hong Kong before coming to the United States to attend college. She settled in Texas, earning a bachelor’s degree from the University of Houston. Sylvia subsequently taught Chinese language and culture to elementary school students before helping her husband, Gordon, start his immigration law firm in Houston. She continues to manage his law practice to this day. Together, they have three daughters and five grandchildren. Sylvia developed an interest in Chinese medicine while living in Hong Kong. After arriving in Houston, she developed several chronic medical conditions that Western medicine could not treat. The situation led her back to traditional Chinese remedies for healing, such as acupuncture, herbal medicine, and energy healing. At her daughters’ urging, she has spent the past several years developing this book to provide insights into and illustrate the fundamental principles of traditional Chinese medicine and energy therapy. Sylvia wishes to highlight these practices’ unique cultural approach to health in terms of food and environment. She hopes others may benefit from her sharing her knowledge and unique experiences.
