A Special Story Time with Dennis Arrowsmith

Saturday, November 17, 2018 - 10:30am
2421 Bissonnet St
Houston, TX 77005

Story time is a Saturday morning tradition at Brazos, perfect for kids ages 2 to 9! Each week, we invite a rotating cast of great readers/performers to read both classic and contemporary picture books. And don’t forget about the snacks and great crafts. Story time is a great family activity, with books uniting kids and adults alike!

Story time starts at 10:30am

The Armadillo’s Dream tells the story of Sandy, a determined armadillo whose fondest wish is to sing. This timely and inspiring tale of resilience is Houston Grand Opera’s first-ever commissioned storybook. Though discouraged by the dismissive creatures he meets (including a cricket, a frog and some birds), Sandy is transformed during a magical storm. Soon after, his shell is discovered near the stage door of the Wortham Center and proves to be the perfect addition to an opera!

Dennis fell in love with the performing arts when he played Jack in Into the Woods in 7th grade. He moved to Texas in 1999 for a Bachelor’s degree in Vocal Performance from Rice University. Upon graduation, he joined the chorus of Houston Grand Opera (over 40 productions to date) and performed with their touring education program Opera to Go! for nine seasons. He transitioned to the administrative side in 2015 as Touring Programs Manager. He continues to perform, delighting audiences in many principal roles with the Gilbert and Sullivan Society of Houston. His position at HGO allows him to explore other creative sides such as directing and writing – his first book is HGO’s first commissioned storybook, The Armadillo’s Dream.
