On June 27 at 7pm, Short Story Live continues with a very special installment showcasing the great Octavia Butler, and featuring very special guest reader, audiobook narrator and University of Houston-Clear Lake English professor, Elizabeth Klett!

Butler, a matriarch of science fiction, never fails to astound with her genre-transcending tales. For decades, she has consistently produced socially-engaged, allegorical and supremely literary sci-fi, such as The Parable of the Sower and the now classic KINDRED. And her Hugo and Nebula award-winning “Bloodchild”--the story of human colonization on a distant planet and the disturbing yet necessary deal made with an alien race--is one of her very best. This promises to be one of the most interesting dates on the SSL calendar this year. You don’t want to miss it!

If you’ve never attended an SSL reading, this is where you should start! Come enjoy a dramatic reading in the setting of your favorite independent bookstore. Have some free wine, and mix with other lovers of literature. It’s a great way to spend a Friday evening. We’ll see you there!
