Public Poetry presents two poets: Erica Nichol and RJ Wright.

Originally from New York, Erica Nicole is a Houston-based psychiatric nurse & poet. She uses her poetry as a way to work through her own life experiences and to hopefully create a space for conversation & healing for others. Erica Nicole is a two-time member of the Houston VIP Slam Team, ranked 5th in the nation. She slams regularly with Houston VIP and Write About Now. Erica Nicole was a finalist in the 2017 Texas Grand Slam Poetry Festival and a semifinalist in the 2016 Texas Grand Slam Poetry Festival. She placed 3rd at the 2017 Bayou City Poetry Slam Festival. She has been published in 310 Brown Street's Texas Slamthology and Z Publishing House's Texas's Best Emerging Poets: An Anthology. 310 Brown Street has recently published her first short length book of poetry, To The One Who Loves Her Next. Recordings of her work can be found on the Write About Now and The Shout Houston YouTube channels.

RJ Wright, has been a member of nationally ranked slam poetry teams that have competed across the United States. Most recently, he was a member of the Write About Now slam team the placed 9th in the nation at the National Poetry Slam. He is the 2016 Houston Performance Poet of the Year and the 2017 Bayou City Slam Champion. He is now pursuing a Masters in Human Science, serving as a First Lieutenant in the United States Army Reserve and hopes to inspire a new generation of writers and poets as well as promote mental health in the African American community through his art.
