Men in suits huddle over a map. They point to specific streets, drawing lines down abandoned roads and alleys. They cut up neighborhoods and communities like butchers, all for the sole purpose of making sure certain individuals stay in political power.

This isn't some dystopian future - this is gerrymandering. George Washington couldn't have imagined such a ruthless tactic, but now it happens all the time.

Nick Lampson, former U.S. congressman, takes you through his personal struggle beginning in Texas in 2003 with the history-making practice of allowing lawmakers to select their own constituencies instead of voters selecting their representatives. Since then, mid decade gerrymandering has spread across the country causing the polarization of our nation and our congress. The only way back to civility is for citizen patriots to rise up and be heard. He calls upon you, the reader, to take action against such competitive and unfair methods to ensure that this is truly not "The Death of Washington's Democracy."
