Her concentration focuses on understanding how and why mysticism spread during the crusades. Berthelsen is a native sixth generation Texan, with deep roots in the Houston area and has travelled extensively to the places she writes about to study their history and cultural systems. A long time resident of Sugar Land, Texas and a mystic at heart, Berthelsen now also lives part time in Sedona, Arizona, where she finds deep inspiration for writing and communion with  nature and beyond.
