Brazos Bookstore is pleased to announce Elif Batuman's appearance in Houston in partnership with Rice University's Humanities Research Center.

Elif Batuman's first book, The Possessed: Adventures with Russian Books and the People Who Read Them, was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award. Her stories have been anthologized in the 2014 Best American Travel Writing and the 2010 Best American Essays collections. She is the recipient of a Whiting Writers’ Award, a Rona Jaffe Foundation Writers’ Award, and a Paris Review Terry Southern Prize for Humor. Batuman has been a staff writer at The New Yorker since 2010. Batuman holds a doctoral degree in comparative literature from Stanford University. From 2010 to 2013, she was writer-in-residence at Koç University, in Istanbul.

The event will begin at 6:30pm. Batuman will be signing books at the end of the event.

Entrance is free with RSVP (see ticket options below). We are also offering a ticket option that includes a hardcover copy of Batuman's book The Idiot.

This event will be held at Hudspeth Auditorium at the Anderson-Clarke Center on the Rice University campus. The Center, which is also home to Rice's Glasscock School of Continuing Studies, is situated on the west side of Rice’s campus at Entrance 8 at Stockton and University Boulevard. Free parking is available for the event in West Lot 4 on Rice Campus.
