An Independent Bookstore Day Note from Ben

Phew, y’all. It has been a crazy spring for events at Brazos Bookstore. We’ve had major offsite events with Mohsin Hamid, Steven Pinker, Sean Penn, Cecile Richards, and others. And we have lots more to come, including James Clapper, Joe Holley, Rachel Kushner, Paula McLain, Jon Meacham, Michael Ondaatje, Gregory Pardlo, Tom Perrotta, Jesmyn Ward, and Lawrence Wright.

But many of our favorite events happen in-store. Brazos Bookstore is the home base, after all! And one of our favorite annual events is right around the corner: Independent Bookstore Day on 4/28.

Independent Bookstore Day is an opportunity to invite the Houston’s readers into the store to say thank you with daylong promotions and events.

This year, we have a full line-up:

Perhaps most exciting of all, we’ll welcome beloved Argentine author Rodrigo Fresán to the store at 7pm for a reading (his novel THE INVENTED PART is a Brazos store favorite!). Come meet him and his publisher, Chad Post, from Open Letter Books, one America’s great purveyors of literature-in-translation.

Check out our full Independent Bookstore Day schedule online and come hang out with us as we head into a busy end of spring and a fantastic summer (a preview: Moby Dick! David Sedaris! Family activities all season!). We love y’all and value your support so much, year-round. So let’s party!

Love, Ben and the Brazos Staff
