An evening with Mary Beard at Christ Church Cathedral

Article by Lydia

"The beginning of empire and the beginning of literature were two sides of the same coin.”

Join us for an evening with renowned historian and author Mary Beard on September 18 at 7:30pm. With her signature wit and immense knowledge, Beard will discuss her work as a classical scholar and her newest book, S.P.Q.R.: A HISTORY OF ANCIENT ROME. We hope to see you there!

Beard is the author of several books on ancient Rome, and S.P.Q.R. was named a finalist for both the National Book Critics Circle award and the LA Times Book Prize. She is the classics editor of The Times Literary Supplement, an award-winning professor at Cambridge University, and also contributes regularly to both The London and The New York Review of Books.

The event will take place at the Christ Church Cathedral (Episcopal) in downtown Houston, and tickets are on sale now. Each ticket admits two (2) people and includes one (1) signed paperback copy of S.P.Q.R.: A HISTORY OF ANCIENT ROME. Books will be distributed at the church as you enter the sanctuary (additional books will be available for purchase at the event). You must pay for your ticket in advance to confirm your reservation; unpaid tickets will not be held in case of a sell-out. Please arrive by 7:15pm to guarantee entry; unclaimed seats may be released at that time.
