Incoming Third Grade

Dear Parents and Shining Rising 3rd Graders,
Ciao! Welcome to 3rd grade at St. Mark’s! Summer is a wonderful time to read for pleasure and strengthen your basic addition and subtraction facts. We would like to include some selections to help guide your reading and math practice.

Our class read is from the hilarious Dory Fantasmagory series. As the youngest in her family, Dory really wants attention, and more than anything she wants her brother and sister to play with her. But she is too much of a baby for them, so she is left to her own devices—including her wild imagination and untiring energy. Her siblings may roll their eyes at her childish games, but Dory has lots of things to do: outsmarting the monsters all over the house, escaping from prison (aka time-out), and exacting revenge on her sister’s favorite doll. And when they really need her, daring Dory will prove her bravery, and finally get exactly what she has been looking for.

Each student is asked to read this book this summer: Dory Fantasmagory #1 by Abby Halon and one book of your choice from the Bluebonnet or HASLIN list. 

Please use a spiral notebook (8 ½” x 11”) of your child’s choice to be used as his or her St. Mark’s summer reading assignment journal.
