Brazos Book of the Month July 2010

The Imperfectionists by Tom Rachman

The Imperfectionists

The Imperfectionists is about the quirky, maddening, endearing people who write and read an international newspaper based in Rome: from the obituary reporter who will do anything to avoid work, to the young freelancer who is manipulated by an egocentric war correspondent, to the dog-obsessed publisher who seems less interested in his struggling newspaper than in his magnificent basset hound, Schopenhauer.

For its staff, the true front-page stories are their own private lives. As this imperfect bunch stumbles along, the era of high terror and high tech bears down, the characters collide, and the novel hurtles toward its climax…

Pages & Stages: Our Town

October 13, 2009 - 6:15pm

Alley Theatre invites you to attend the Our Town Pages & Stages Tuesday, October 13 starting at 6:15pm. Pages & Stages combines the imagination of the written word with the excitement of live theatre. Participants enjoy a pre-curtain discussion group led by special guests from the Houston area, then attend the performance. This event is a great opportunity for people who enjoy theatre to get a deeper understanding and appreciation of the story telling process.

Alley Theatre is partnering with the Houston Public Library and Brazos Bookstore to offer this event.

For Our Town, the selected complimentary reading is Dandelion Wine  by Ray Bradbury. A discussion about this reading will precede the performance and light refreshments will be served. After the performance, participants can stay for a TalkBack led by Alley cast members and artistic staff. These pre- and post-show events are free with your ticket to the Tuesday, October 13, 7:30 pm performance of Our Town. To participate in the pre- and post-show discussions, a ticket must be purchased for the performance. Visit www.alleytheatre.org
for tickets and more information.
