Which movies help define your life?

OUR SECRET LIFE IN THE MOVIES understands the power of cinema to make us who we are. In this whip-smart fiction debut, authors Michael McGriff and J.M. Tyree riff on a wide range of films, creating a powerful coming-of-age portrait of life in the 1980s. This is a book that focuses on not only the Cold War and Reaganomics, but also BLADE RUNNER and Dungeons & Dragons.

OUR SECRET LIFE IN THE MOVIES is the third release from A Strange Object, Austin’s acclaimed indie publisher of short fiction. At Brazos, we love A Strange Object’s books, including Kelly Luce’s THREE SCENARIOS IN WHICH HANA SASAKI GROWS A TAIL and Nicholas Grider’s MISADVENUTRE (reviewed by Annalia here and by Ben here).

To show our love, we’ve decided to throw a Houston release party for OUR SECRET LIFE IN THE MOVIES—a party that will also celebrate A Strange Object as a whole, giving the Houston literary scene an opportunity to get to know this exciting new Texas publisher.

This event will happen Thursday, November 6, from 6pm to 7pm, at the historic Grand Prize Bar, located between Montrose and the Museum District. The event will feature readings from Michael McGriff (co-author of OUR SECRET LIFE IN THE MOVIES) and Kelly Luce (author of THREE SCENARIOS IN WHICH HANA SASAKI GROWS A TAIL).

There will also be movie trivia, and the chance to win a Criterion Collection gift certificate!

Please join us in this celebration of Texas, literature, and film.
