Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner will be introducing Barbara Radnofsky at this event.

In a straightforward, non-partisan approach, a leading legal expert details a precise understanding of the rules and history of impeachment. Spotlighting in particular the precise rules of impeachment -- including an explanation of the crucial grounds for impeachment, the famous "high crimes and misdemeanors" -- the book also details the origins of those rules as set out by the founding fathers in the Constitution, and the history of their application throughout the history of our democracy. This last includes full details of the 18 instances of impeachment that have taken place -- of judges, legislators, and presidents -- throughout American history, starting with the very first impeachment trial of an America politician: that of a Federal judge who seemed to have gone insane.

Scrupulously avoiding the advocacy of impeachment toward any particular politician (the words "Trump" and "Obama" do not appear in the text) the book proves a fascinating read about a unique aspect of our democracy, as well as a useful, one-of-a-kind guide for citizens in a participatory government.

Barbara Ann Radnofsky was a partner in the respected Houston law firm of Vinson & Elkins, and retired after twenty-seven years as a trial lawyer and head of the firm's alternative dispute resolution section. She was the first woman in Texas history to run as the Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate in 2006 (she lost to incumbent Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison) and the first, also, to run as the Democratic candidate for Texas Attorney General in 2010 (she lost to incumbent Greg Abbott). She later returned to legal practice to work as a mediator. She has also volunteered as a teacher, primarily with the Upward Bound program, working with students who have neurological disorders. A magna cum laude graduate of the University of Houston, where she enrolled at age sixteen, and the University of Texas School of Law, Radnofsky is married and the mother of three children. She lives in Houston.
