Brazos is thrilled to present Anna Mitchael for a reading and booksigning of her debut book, a memoir called Just Don't Call Me Ma'am: How I Ditched the South, Forgot My Manners, and Managed to Survive My Twenties with (Most of) My Dignity Still Intact.

Anna Mitchael is like a lot of young women with fast-paced lives.  Armed with a suitcase of clothing in various shades of black, she set off from college to make her mark on the world. Mitchael tried new zip codes, new jobs and new boyfriends, but before this Southern girl could find a new home, she had to find herself. Just Call Me Ma’am is one woman’s tale of her twentysomethings spent searching for something more. Written with unmitigated honesty and disarming humor, it’s a hilarious story about the ups and downs and picking yourself up off the ground that are inevitable parts of being human. Good friends always tell it like it is, and when it comes to the trials and tribulations in figuring out who you are really meant to be, Mitchael is the best of friends.

Anna Mitchael began her writing career by instructing patrons of her lemonade stand to buy some "or else." She enjoyed threatening people so much that she made a career out of it, and spent her twenties as a copywriter at advertising agencies in cities across the nation.  Just Don’t Call Me Ma’am, her first published memoir, is the project that kept her sane throughout those years.

Anna is now a reformed nomad who has returned home to Texas. She will tolerate y’all but reserves the right to raise hell when anyone calls her ma’am. You can read the daily chronicles of her life (with a side of extra-spicy jalapenos, please) at annamitchael.com/happinessproject.
