Gift Buyer Spotlight: Austin Press

As a buyer, there are two times a year that I turn into a kid on my favorite holiday, giddy with excitement for all of the new lines, collections, catalogs as well as searching for the newest things that I will be carrying. I can’t count the times I’ve gotten excited during the new buying season and pestered (tortured) my colleagues with images and pictures from catalogs. The next best part is opening the boxes that have come in and seeing what we have ordered.

This was especially the case when I found Austin Press a few weeks ago and knew that if the products looked as good in person as they did in the catalog, they were going to be my feature for this month. I was not disappointed.

Austin Press is located in San Francisco and is run by Kimberly Austin, who beautifully crafts everything from ephemera to candles to apothecary. After looking through her catalog I fell in love with her letterpress cards, which we are now carrying in the store. I am obsessed with flat cards and the idea that you can write a little note and send it without feeling the pressure to fill all of the blank space.

Austin Press’ flat notes are single letterpressed and printed on die cut, 4-ply museum board. Her single card collection are single letterpressed and printed with deft blue and black inks onto folded cards made from 100% cotton paper. Each comes with a custom envelope.

Below are some of Austin Press’ new flat and folded cards.
